NL de RAOTL Another issue of Red All Over The Land is out. The sales of Issue 178 ex-ceeded expectations and instead of getting extra copies printed, which in truth wouldn’t have been financially viable we decided to go ahead with the next Issue. That allows us to stay relatively up to date, which for a Fanzine isn’t a bad thing. Issue 179 contains a report that was placed in the June 1989 issue of When Saturday Comes and how that excellent magazine viewed the events at Hillsborough. Considering all that has gone on since the disclosures it’s well worth reading to see how genuine football people saw the actions from not just the police, but also the FA and the Govern-ment. Since the disclosures Norman Bettison has announced his retirement and Kelvin Mackenzie has claimed he’s a victim too. Amazing. Also in 179 you can read the Arl Arse Lament - 50-years of watching Liver-pool and when the Reds got back into Division one all those years ago what his life was like. The Beatles were just starting out, The Rolling Stones seemed normal and a young Bob Dylan was changing the times. John W. Henry’s ‘open’ letter to the supporters get dissected and we take a look at how followers of the Boston Red Sox are viewing events at Fenway Park. All the usual crew are in there, Semolina Pilchard and KADJ07 amongst them. We welcome a new contributor, Bryan Denny who went out for an Evening With Rafa. Anfield Roar n°3 (Fight goes on en couverture) : - l'édito est consacré à Hillsborough et rappelle que 41 personnes auraient pu être sauvées si les secours avaient été à la hauteur... - un article sur les attaquants disponibles (on apprend que Yesil est surnommé Gerd) - une présentation de la série "Being Liverpool" où J. Carragher, contrairement à Reina par exemple, serait sous-titré... - une revue des résultats de la réserve - un focus historique sur la saison 1976/1977 - Last but not the least, la présentation de la branche française par Camelia très instructive avec des précisions sur le Rush Bar, la Kop Cup...

Comme d'habitude, une très bonne livraison de The Liverpool Way (n°84 Downing en couverture) : - l'édito revient évidemment sur Hillsborough avec l'idée sous-jacente "on a enfin la vérité, il est temps d'avoir la justice". Sinon, au niveau footballistique, la cible 6-8ème en championnat apparaît la plus réaliste... - le diary rappelle que qqchose de LFC est mort le jour du licenciement de Dalglish (un article lui est aussi consacré "No way to treat a king")ainsi que le transfert d'Aquilani (18M€ + 125.000 livres par semaine pendant 5 ans)a sûrement été le pire d'une série pourtant riche... - un CR de la bio malheureusement posthume de Gary Ablett "The game of my life" - un article de fond de Dave Usher sur la stratégie de FSG à l'aune de la débâcle de la dernière journée de transfert : enveloppe annuelle (hormis l'année dernière où le surplus du contrat de sponsoring avec Standard Chartered avait été réinvesti) similaire à l'époque Moores (on apprend d'ailleurs qu'il avait prêté l'argent pour l'achat de Kuyt et récupéré 1M£ d'intérêts...), masse salariale (4ème) ne correspondant pas aux résultats sportifs, bonne performance commerciale et apurement de la situation financière dans l'attente (hypothétique ?) de la mise en place du fair-play financier... - le débat porte sur la gestion de FSG, où l'impatience face à l'amateurisme lors de la dernière journée des transferts, le turn-over au niveau du staff, l'absence de progrès sur le projet de stade, commencent à impatienter même si les progrès commerciaux et la bonne situation financière sont signalés...

RAOTL n°178 Justice for the 96 en couverture Outre quelques articles sur la dernière journée des transferts (articles sur Henderson, Carroll, impossibilité de Rodgers de faire évoluer des joueurs n'ayant pas son style de football) et un ou deux articles sur Hillsborough en raison de la date de publication, un très bon article sur la Liverpool Way : - sa définition : pass, move, press and flair - son évolution : quintessence en 1987-88 sous Dalglish, retour de flamme avec Evans mais déficit de mental et de force physique, détachement avec Houllier et un jeu basé sur la contre-attaque, satisfecit pour Benitez surtout pour la saison 2008-2009 : manque de flair mais grand mental et force physique alliés avec des atouts techniques, le pire restant évidemment l'ère Hodgson, retour espéré avec Dalglish V2 comme caretaker mais non-confirmé par la suite La Liverpool Way relève avant tout d'une approche pragmatique, d'une bonne balance entre l'organisation et le flair, la force et la technique et surtout un mental pour atteindre une autre composante indispensable de la Liverpool Way : gagner... . Une expression savoureuse à propos d'Aquilani : "He's made more comebacks than Status Quo"

NL de RAOTL dont le nouveau numéro est sorti aujourd'hui pour le match contre MU : RED ALL OVER THE LAND would like to add their name to the list who’ve thanked the many football clubs and their supporters who came out and spoke of their support for the JUSTICE CAMPAIGN. To have achieved so much the Hillsborough groups deserve our thanks and full support, which I’m sure will always be there. What they have had to go through over a 23-year period very few outsiders could understand. The smear campaign conducted by the authorities and many parts of the media brought shame on this once proud country. What we have to do now is strengthen our support and make sure that the groups never have to walk nor fight alone. This is not about revenge or retribution this about JUSTICE prevailing and I would hope that the Government of this country makes sure the guilty are brought to task. Finally a special word about the magnificent way Everton Football Club paid tribute to THE 96 prior to their game with Newcastle. Over the years for several reasons maybe the relationship between the supporters of the two clubs has been stretched but at times such as this, it is good to know that when it really matters the clubs and the supporters stand together. We should remember, also, it wasn’t just the name of Liverpool supporters that the authorities and the media smeared it was the city of Liverpool and football supporters in general September 6 th : The Liverpool Football Communications team set the event up, a meeting for some independent Fan groups to go along to what might be described as the alternative Press Conference. Or the chance for those of us from Fanzines, unofficial websites along with representatives of organisations such as Anfield FM, Redmen TV and The Anfield Wrap to name just a few of the dozen or so that were in attendance. I don’t know about the rest but I certainly didn’t know what to expect but the ‘invite’ suggested that we’d meet with Brendan Rodgers, we’d have 10-minutes to introduce ourselves and 10-minutes to ask a few questions. I didn’t know if the plan was for the manager to turn up on his own or be flanked by a couple of heavies [or rather people who would be telling us what we could or couldn’t ask]. It was to be nothing like that it was to be a totally relaxed environment in the company of the latest Liverpool manager and the 10-minutes to ask a few questions turned into something like an hour long discussion group with Brendan seeming to be very relaxed as were those in attendance. Our manager spoke freely and answered all the questions put to him. One thing was clear, he’s determined to make Liverpool a success and is confident about it happening. The pride he has as manager of Liverpool FC was obvious and as he said, he could have stayed in South Wales but the position as Liverpool manager is special. We were treated to an explanation of his tactics and of how he sees certain players fitting into the system. We got told how Carra sets an example to all regarding his attitude to training etc. He holds Joe Allen in the highest esteem and how the team’s future could be developed around such players. Whilst he’s out of action with injury Lucas will be going out watching the future opposition because he buys into the manager’s football philosophy and has an excellent awareness of the game. There was no point in ducking any issue and we were told of the instability and insecurity surrounding the club when he arrived from Swansea. Surgery was and is needed and it could be painful at times. However, Brendan Rodgers will give the younger players their chance but he doesn’t want to see what they can do in a 20- minute cameo as a substitute, he wants to see what they do every day of the week. I can only speak for myself but I left the meeting feeling I’d been given an insight into how Brendan Rodgers wants things to be and it was a privilege being in the room. I think most of us left feeling uplifted by the chat, which was two-way. I look forward to further opportunities to ask him how its going.

Rien de bouleversant dans le RAOTL n°177 (F. Borini en couverture) : - l'édito rappelle que Liverpool n'est pas seulement une équipe mais surtout un club en transition, - les prédictions pour la saison avec un top 6 comme objectif crédible... - un article recensant tout ce qu'on peut regrettant dans le "modern game" : argent de Sky, numéro des maillots... - des articles assez louangeurs sur Owen et Rodgers, qui s'exprime comme un manager de LFC et qui a réinstallé les "red nets" (pas trop compris de quoi il s'agissait) - un article sur Hillsborough et avant la connaissance du rapport de cette semaine une comparaison pertinente avec les suites du Bloody Sunday.

Pour ma part, j'ai été un peu déçu par The King's last stand qui n'est que la compilation de ses analyses de match de Liverpool et du championnat d'Angleterre, qui ne devraient pas être totalement étrangères à un lecteur assidu du site de TLW. J'avais néanmoins raté que Dave Usher possédait un maillot floqué Cheyrou suite à sa prestation en amical contre la Lazio en 2002 et qu'avait couru la rumeur de la famille Redknapp (Harry + Jamie) pour prendre la suite du King...

On nous demande de signaler la sortie d'un nouveau fanzine entièrement dématérialisé "ANFIELD ROAR". Au premier numéro : - des articles de présentation de B. Rodgers ou de F. Borini assimilé notamment à un "fox in the box" - le Gary's (Neville) Diary assez amusant - des rubriques "Anti-United" (essentiellement des blagues), "Fantasy Foot", "History Lesson" ou "Kop Legend" (the big Sami) - des articles sur la participation des Reds à l'Euro, la tournée US ou le nouveau kit. Très belle mise en page, qui décontenance même un peu pour un fanzine tandis que les articles pourraient être approfondis (à l'exception de la reprise de l'édito de JJP de RAOTL ???)pour ne pas ressembler à un programme officiel... Dans un vieux numéro de Liverpool Way, Dave Usher fait bien mention de contacts avec Manchester United, ce que Robbie dément totalement dans sa bio. Tout fout le camp décidemment...

Sur la problématique du stade, outre l'impression d'avoir les mêmes débats depuis dix ou quinze ans, je trouve qu'on a du mal à avoir accès à une info exhaustive : - Un agrandissement d'Anfield est-il techniquement possible ? - Quel est le bon format en terme de capacités pour un club comme Liverpool ? - Aura-t-on les moyens un jour de s'offrir un nouveau stade ? Est-il vital économiquement à moyen terme ?

RAOTL N°176 avec B. Rodgers en couverture "The Missionary Man Cometh" Sans grande surprise, le numéro de rentrée est consacré largement à l'éviction du King avec le sentiment largement partagé par les contributeurs que désormais LFC existe plus pour faire de l'argent que de gagner des trophées... A signaler : - les traditionnels articles "Hello / Goodbye" tant pour les clubs (promus / relégué) que joueurs - un petit article sympathique sur Dirk Kuyt - des récits sur les déplacements à l'Euro ou les JO (sans grand intérêt pour ma part) Prochain numéro pour le match contre City ou Hearts retour.

Suite et fin "The boston era starts now" : “I make no promises except that when I take over I shall put everything into the job I so willing undertake”. Those were the words of the great Mr Bill Shankly on the day he was ap-pointed manager of Liverpool Football Club. “The challenge and the motivation is for me to do the best I possibly can and I will always fight for my life for Liverpool, and that will be on and off the field”. Those were the words of Brendan Rodgers in his first interview after being appointed manager of Liverpool Football Club. There sounds a similarity if only in the desire what happens next will be down to a multitude of things but all I can say is that as an opening shot it wasn’t a bad one. Brendan Rodgers appeared to do what Roy Hodgson couldn’t do and that was to embrace the values and passion of Liverpool Football Club and for that reason alone he deserves the opportunity to prove he can be part of the heritage and history of OUR club. However, what impressed me most was when Ian Ayre started talking about the reasons for not immediately appoint-ing a Director of Football. The new manager quickly interrupted and took over; giving his reasons for not wanting a Director of Football. Just like when Rafa took over, he likes to be his own man. Whilst I nodded in approval at the tributes paid to Kenny Dalglish I still be-lieve the decision to relieve him of his managerial duties was the wrong one but Brendan Rodgers has got my support. The job of The Boston Boys is to now give him the financial support necessary to take the club closer to the top-4; if they support the manager—and I’d prefer to see them doing it from closer to home than Boston USA, - then we can maybe move forward to-gether. A lot of changes have been made at Liverpool Football Club over the past months; some that probably passed a lot of us by but some that were just as significant as the changing of the manager. The club has now a new commer-cial direction, it has a new take on communications and it has a new football manager. This is now definitely their project deliverance will be awaited pa-tiently and with interest. JJP

La suite : Here we go again, a new season about to start and the start of yet another new dawn for Liverpool FC. Just how many new dawns we’ve had in the past 20-years I’ve no idea but just like we did with Souness, Evans, Houllier, Benitez, Hodgson and Kenny we’ll give Brendan Rodgers a chance to show us that this new dawn is definitely the heralding of a bright new tomorrow instead of just the rolling of thunder clouds somewhere on the horizon. Henry and Werner have now as much to prove as any manager we’ve had and that goes for Ian Ayre as well. They have to feel the need and understand the desires of the support, this is Liverpool FC, that need and those desires go deeper than just what happens on the pitch. Red All Over The Land, The Fanzine is back out and still costs only £2 and we hope that we have your support. Whether people agree with what Fanzines say isn’t the point, Fanzines are an independent voice amid all the Sky hype and in our case, the LFCTV hype who sadly shied away from controversy when Kenny was sacked. They feel the need only to report good news and even bad news is turned around into some-thing good. Fanzines don’t go down that route; I see Fanzines as the voice of the fans, not just Red All Over The Land but all Fanzines. There’s a lot wrong in the game of football today as anybody that follows teams such as Portsmouth and Glasgow Rang-ers will tell you. We live in the age of Sky and they like to brainwash everyone into believing that all is good and great in the game that they control. There’s too many clubs living on the edge for that to be the case and that’s why Fanzines are needed just to try and get the message across. However, many of us are finding it hard to stay afloat but we’re clinging on and we’ll cling on for another season at least. It’s been a wet summer but hopefully the football we see will bring a few rays of sun-shine to our lives. I don’t pretend to understand what Tika-Taka is but if it’s some-thing that Barcelona can put to good effect then maybe it’s worth a go. Only when all the fancy names and tactical notepads are put down and all the figures about posses-sion and tackles won and lost have been binned it’s about results and if we can get a few of those this season then that’ll will do for most of us. Oh, a bit of good football won’t go amiss either.

Cela va changer un peu le contenu et la qualité des communications de la "Pravda"...

Si l'info de la BBC est confirmée, je crains que notre politique de recrutement poursuive sa perte de crédibilité, pourtant déjà bien entamée depuis quelques années... Tant d'un point de vue comptable que sportif, il paraît plus cohérent de donner une nouvelle chance au great Brit, qui a, de plus, montré des signes encourageants en fin de saison dernière... D'un autre côté, on ne le met pas dans les meilleures conditions pour cette saison...

Au regard du côté "injury-prone" du danois, si une offre conséquente de plus de 15 M£ est formulée, ne mériterait-elle pas d'être examinée attentivement ?

The Liverpool Way n°83 Martin Skrtel en couverture . Dernier numéro de la saison également de TLW avec l’édito de Dave Usher rappelant que la position de Kenny ne semble pas menacée, que Liverpool a souvent dominé dans le jeu mais avec un déficit marqué aux deux extrémités du terrain (l’attaque bien sûr avec l’absence criante d’un « killer instinct » permettant de gagner « ugly » mais aussi le gardien, où un article détaille notamment le manque d’arrêts décisifs de Reina, peut-être du au manque de compétition et au départ de X. Valero comme entraîneur des gardiens). Il garde toutefois sa confiance en FSG notamment au regard de leur gestion des Red Sox difficilement comparable avec les deux précédents pitres…. . La rubrique des « forgotten heroes » est consacrée à Bill Jones un « versatile player » de la fin des années 40 qui a tenu six positions différentes en 32 matchs dans la saison 1946-47, et fut capitaine des Reds malheureusement l'année de la relégation en 1953… Un autre article sur les saisons passées en D2 dans les années cinquante avant la remontée sous l'égide de Shankly. . Comme d’habitude, un article de fond passionnant de D. Usher sur l'éviction de Comolli : C’est plus le montant des transferts que la qualité des joueurs recrutés qui peut lui être reproché au nom de la théorie du Moneyball développée par Billy Beane (dont a été tiré un bouquin et un film, paraît-il, avec B. Pitt), qui a d’ailleurs recommandé Comolli à FSG. Paradoxalement, moins de la moitié des recrutements effectués correspond à cette philosophie de recrutements de jeunes joueurs prometteurs et pas trop chers (Coates semble en être le plus proche). Une comparaison est aussi faite avec Theo Epstein, jeune manager général des Red Sox qui leur a apporté le succès mais fut également viré, même si le rôle d’un manager/directeur est fondamentalement différent entre le base-ball et le soccer. . Un recensement des recrues potentielles dans la cible de FSG de jeunes prometteurs à plus-value est également mené dans les différents championnats européens. Sont cités en milieux Martin, Sissoko et Kuzmanovic (Stuttgart) et en attaque G. Ramirez, Belhanda et Giroud, Jovetic ou De Jong… . Le débat porte sur les moyens nécessaires pour revenir dans le top four : un buteur « fox in the box » et un wide player, un nouveau stade sont bien sûr évoqués…. Quelques stats intéressantes également : En terme de tirs au but, Liverpool serait la deuxième équipe du championnat après Chelsea mais a touché 31 fois « les bois » dans la saison… Enfin, on évoquait déjà un certain Sigurdsson de Swansea…

Pour ma part, je serai un peu moins optimiste que la majorité des intervenants et retiens les accroches de la presse française lors de sa nomination évoquant le passage du légendaire à l'inconnu... L'offal mérite aussi de plus en plus son surnom de Pravda avec toutes ces interventions d'anciens joueurs et d'entraîneurs confirmant le choix exceptionnel fait par FSG... J'espère évidemment me tromper dans les grandes largeurs et, conformément à la Liverpool Way, je soutiendrai évidemment et pleinement B. Rodgers.

Encore un, à l'instar de Didi Hammann, qui n'aura pas eu le départ que sa carrière sous le maillot rouge méritait...

N'ayant pu résister à la tentation de commander quelques numéros anciens de "The Liverpool Way" choisis au hasard par l'éditeur, j'ai quelques doublons, datant principalement de la fin de l'ère Houllier pour ceux qui seraient intéressés par ce type de lectures...
