N'étant pas un spécialiste des questions de marketing, je n'ai toujours pas compris pourquoi le kit away n'était pas encore sorti ? Le but est de faire durer le plaisir des futurs consommateurs ?

The Liverpool Way n°99 Balotelli/Rodgers en couverture Dans son édito, Dave Usher confie qu'il a sûrement vécu la saison la plus déprimante de sa vie... En effet, il se sent désormais un étranger parmi la foule à Anfield, composée désormais de personnes se demandant où se trouve le mémorial des 69 (sic) ou arborant une écharpe avec le logo de MU Heureusement, TLW, pour son avant-dernier numéro, finit plutôt comme Carra que StevieG... Un article remet les "razzies 2015" avec le prix Fabio Aurelio du joueur blessé à Sturridge, la phase de Brendan Rodgers de la saison naturellement à BR ou le prix de la plus mauvaise affaire de Ian Ayre au renouvellement de contrat de Stu. Une revue des joueurs à vendre (josé enrique, balo, borini) ou à garder (avec curieusement lovren pour ne pas trop y perdre...). Un article sur le risque de devenir le nouveau Everton, un club qui n'arrivera plus à retrouver son niveau antérieur... Un autre comparant LFC à Monchengladbach ou Saint-Etienne... Dave consacre trois pages à la saga Sterling et lui reconnaît quelques circonstances atténuantes dans un football devenu marché... Un article sur le manque de caractère dans les grands matchs avec une interrogation sur l'identité du nouveau capitaine... Un article historique relatant la création de l'association des supporters de football, dont son fondateur prédisait que dans le futur les clubs paieraient les fans pour assister au match... Le débat porte sur la confiance accordée à Brendan Rodgers, qui n'apparaît pas trop en défaveur de l'actuel manager, dont le potentiel, les qualités de formateur sont reconnues avec évidemment le gros point noir des transferts. Un contributeur conclut sur l'importance des derniers matchs de la saison pour apprécier si l'équipe croit en lui ou non Dave conclut qu'il a la même foi et la même réserve en BR quà la fin de l'année dernière : Le jury accorde majoritairement un an supplémentaire avec sursis...

Tout à fait d'accord sur l'analyse mais, en dépit des bonnes critiques reçues lors de la sortie du livre, les personnes extérieures au football que je connais, fans de l'oeuvre de David Peace et plus particulièrement de ses polars, qui ont lu le livre m'ont plutôt dit que cette fois elles "décrochaient" face au style d'écriture privilégié par Peace dans ce roman... Un très bon souvenir de lecture néanmoins

Red Machine Liverpool FC in the 1980’s The Players’ stories Plutôt que des auto-biographies « marketées » et souvent aseptisées, le journaliste Simon Hughes a préféré consacrer une dizaine d’entretiens avec des joueurs de l’époque pour retracer de l’intérieur cette décennie de succès (six titres de champion, 2 C1, 2 Cups et 4 coupes de la ligue) que fut les 80’s pour le Liverpool Football Club… Dans son introduction, Stevie G, se souvenant avec émotion de son premier kit à 5 ans, rappelle également l’ère de succès sportif pour la ville de Liverpool, puisqu’Everton était alors le concurrent le plus sérieux de LFC tant en championnat qu’en Europe. Captain Fantastic se remémore qu’à cette époque un joueur typique de Liverpool était un joueur qui n’acceptait pas la défaite aisément, constat également partagé par Ronnie Moran, dernier survivant du mythique Boot Room, pour qui le problème principal des équipes de Liverpool serait actuellement la résignation… Le comédien Arthur Askey insiste, pour sa part, sur l’importance de la représentation, de la comédie pour la ville. « Vous devez être un comédien pour vivre ici » résume-t-il. Les difficultés économiques (les chants adverses reprenant « Vous n’aurez jamais un job »), le hooliganisme ou le racisme (dont Nigel Spackman décrit la montée lors de son passage à Chelsea) ne doivent évidemment pas être niés et forment le sombre arrière-plan de cette décennie. Dans ce cadre, Simon Hugues dresse un portrait vivifiant de « caractères », qui ont progressivement disparu dans le football moderne et présente tant l’avant (avec des parcours parfois exotiques au Canada ou en Australie) que l’après (avec cependant peu de réussites dans le domaine managérial) de leur carrière de footballeur professionnel : Bruce Groobelar se rappelle ainsi les menaces de mort reçues suite à ses débuts désastreux (« Si Tommy Smith était encore capitaine, il vous aurait brisé trois fois les jambes pour les erreurs commises » lui précise un « courrier de bienvenue ») qu’il arrivera toutefois à surmonter avec 310 apparitions successives et ses fameuses « spaghetti legs » (bien que ses débuts professionnels en tant que militaire zimbabwéen lui avaient inculqué un certain sens de la discipline…) Howard Gayle, le premier footballeur noir à Anfield, fut également la terreur originale de Toxteth avec des débuts dans sa jeunesse comme hooligan et un passage par la case prison…Il témoigne également d’avoir souffert de racisme à Melwood (il menacera Tommy Smith avec une batte de base-ball suite à des propos déplacés) ou à Munich par les supporters bavarois lors de la fameuse demi-finale de C1 en 1981. Michael Robinson, désormais consultant-star sur la TV espagnole, fut un des jeunes espoirs les plus chers de l’époque (démarrant néanmoins modestement à 6£ par semaine..). Il rappelle aussi qu’Everton, dans les années 60, était surnommé « the bank of England » club à l’instar des Chelski ou City d’aujourd’hui. Avis donc aux fans du « people’s club »… David Hogdson souligne, quant à lui, l’humilité de Dalglish, le mutisme de Hansen, et surtout les qualités de leadersphip de Souness, avec qui, John Wark, autre interviewé, fut souvent confondu à cause de ses moustaches. Il a également débuté avec le club amateur de Drumchapel qui a vu évoluer dans ses rangs Dalglish, Alex Ferguson ou Walter Smith. Son 1er coach fut David Moyes senior. Comme Groobelar, Craig Johnston a connu un parcours haut en couleur pour devenir footballeur professionnel mais surtout après sa retraite à 27 ans puisqu’il fut créateur de la chaussure Prédator, inventeur de différents systèmes d’apprentissage du foot, photographe mais également ruiné et sans domicile fixe…Son retour d’Australie suite à la tragédie d’Hillsborough fut très apprécié sur les rives de la Mersey. Nigel Spackman tient à mettre en exergue pour la réussite de cette décennie le rôle du secrétaire Peter Robinson, qui permettait au manager de se consacrer uniquement aux problématiques sportives. La modestie du président John Smith est aussi soulignée. Plusieurs autres intervenants comme John Barnes ou Steve Staunton font remarquer l’importance de la convivialité dans l’équipe avec une « culture de la boisson » que le succès continu permettait de tolérer. LFC privilégiait le recrutement de joueurs du nord de l’Angleterre, hormis quelques exceptions sudistes. Un important travail de scouting précédait également tout recrutement (Groobelar fut ainsi suivi au Canada pendant 6 semaines avant sa signature). Ils portent également une analyse assez fine sur les raisons de la déchéance qu’a connue le club à partir des 90’s : Pour Barnes, le club fut victime du changement de culture footballistique avec l’arrivée des médias et de l’argent et quand les dirigeants l’ont réalisé, il était trop tard… Pour Steve Staunton, Liverpool était, avant tout, un club familial, ce qui explique son fabuleux succès dans les années 80’s mais également les raisons pour lesquelles il ne gagne plus autant maintenant… Le mot de la fin revient à Ronnie Moran, longtemps décrit par les joueurs de l’époque comme un « rotweiller » et qui confesse une certaine admiration dans sa façon d’appréhender le football pour Alex Ferguson : Finalement, n’est-il pas celui qui a le mieux su adapter une sorte de Liverpool Way au fonctionnement du football moderne mais malheureusement à Manchester ?

Dear Supporter, Liverpool FC are playing away to Hull City at the KC Stadium on Tuesday 28th April. Match tickets are priced at £50. £2 will be knocked off per ticket by way of a subsidy from Liverpool FC and this is to be taken from the £200,000 Premier League away fans initiative. That makes it £48 a ticket. Last season, tickets for this fixture were £35. Stoke City played Hull City at the KC Stadium in August of this season. Their tickets were £16. Everton FC played Hull City at the KC Stadium in December of this season. Their tickets were £35. The mark up for Liverpool FC fans compared to Stoke City is 200%. The mark up compared to Everton FC is just over 31%. That's double the cost for Evertonians compared to Stoke City and then treble the cost for Liverpool FC fans. Remember here, we're watching the same opposition, from the same seats, from the same stand, with the same facilities in the same league. Read that again - £48 for a Liverpool FC fan and £16 for a Stoke City fan. A 200% mark up. This is unacceptable. With support of the Spion Kop 1906 group, the Spirit of Shankly Management Committee have decided that we will not be attending this match. Instead, we will hold a demonstration at Anfield to voice our displeasure at the disgraceful pricing of Premier League tickets. In solidarity, many of the regular independent coaches that are organised and travel from Liverpool will also not be travelling to this fixture. Fans can simply not afford to attend every game at the prices that are currently set. We would encourage fans to join us on that night to tell the money men of the Premier League cartel that they cannot continue to charge exorbitant prices, whilst making obscene amounts of money. This wealth should be shared and passed back to the lifeblood of the game, the supporters. For our members in London, a separate demonstration will be held outside the Premier League Head Quarters. We are aware there are many fans who would wish to simply stop attending games until prices reduce, however we are also only too aware that these fans fear of losing out on attendance credits. We also acknowledge that if people simply refuse to buy a ticket, they will end up in the hands of the modern day football tourists that the clubs are so eager to attract. With this in mind, we will personally be purchasing a £10 ticket in order to maintain our credits and not go. We would urge those who support this initiative to do the same and join us at Anfield. After the demo, we will head to a local pub to watch the match together. More details will follow on this. This is our chance to show that the power is still with the fans. If we stop going, the game will eventually die. Take this chance to send a warning to the people that run the game, we will no longer accept these prices when there is more money in the sport than ever before. We demand the redistribution of wealth. Join us from 7.00 pm at the Anfield and let the powers that be know Liverpool football fans are at the front in the fight for affordable football for all. Toujours pas de nouvelles ? J'ai, en plus, lu qu'il était en fin de contrat cette saison

Les commentaires toujours éclairants de jepigepo Etant fan de Shankly, de ce qu'il représentait pour Liverpool mais également pour sa vision du football moderne, j'ai bien entendu lu ce livre.. Le côté répétitif de l'écrivain s'évanouit au moment de la retraite de Bill... ensuite le style est plus direct. Mais je ne suis pas là pour débattre d'une certaine qualité d'écriture. Non , le point qui retint mon attention fut la désinvolture, presque le rejet de Shankly par LFC en retraite. Il fut invité par le voisin Everton, sans que cela ne choque les dirigeants de LFC..son livre autobiographique ne figura même pas dans la boutique de Pool.. Alors après réflexion je me dis que Liverpool n'a pas dans sa "culture" de retenir les grands joueurs, les grands entraineurs.. Combien d'anciens glorieux trouvèrent place dans le staff de Pool à la fin de leur carrière ? Alors que de nombreux clubs proposent cela à leur jeunes retraités... Oui, il y a des exceptions.. King Kenny entre autres...mais revenu sur le tard au club. Bref, merci pour cette analyse sur le club. Il est vrai que l'on sort la tête haute et fier de ce club...mais j'ai ce goût d'amertume concernant le fin de Shankly et sa mise à l'écart comme retraité (il n'y a qu'à lire ses déplacements en coupe d'Europe et le choix d'hôtels..) Cela a l'air d'aller mieux pour RAOTL Firstly I’d like thank all those who have re-subscribed for next season, after the previous lows in Fanzine Land things have slowly started to pick up. Match Day sales are still down by a about a third on last season but the number of subscribers has increased since the turn of the year. We still need more, certainly more Match Day sales, but in fairness some of the elements on Match Day haven’t helped and those dark winter nights certainly didn’t help. We’ve started to cut our cloth accordingly and trimmed a few of the costs. Almost sounds like a real business doesn’t it? We have two more issues out this season; the first one will be out when we play Newcastle on Monday April 13th and a big thanks to Jamie Carragher’s mates at Sky for that one. Not blaming Jamie of course but maybe he could give us a mention in the weeklong build up that usually goes with a Sky game. By then we’ll know if we’re at Wembley or not; talk about a drawn out game, they settled those old fashioned ‘endless replays’ quicker back in the days before a penalty shoot-out had been invented. Should we be involved in a semi final tie it’s unlikely we’ll be able to sell at Wembley but we’ll see? If we don’t make Wembley we’ll be selling at Hull and West Brom. The final issue of the season is due out against QPR and should still be on sale for the ticket touts dream game [hello Thomas Cook] when Stevie Gerrard makes his farewell show against Crystal Palace, injuries and suspensions permitting and providing he’s picked of course. Regarding next season we’re going to reduce the number of issues we bring out from 13 a season to 10. Hopefully though, we’ll be able to stay as up to date as possible. Bringing out fewer issues could make the Fanzine better; it will mean less work in one way for me but also allow more time for checking for those little errors that sometimes sneak into the magazine. The price on Match day will remain the same but I’ll be looking at ways of making it less costly for those who do subscribe. We have also gained a few more contributors in recent weeks and that has made life easier but we always need more. It adds to the variety and as somebody once said, “Variety is the spice of life”. We could also use more sellers; we have too many empty bases around the fields of Anfield Road, especially now the building works are in full flow. Come along and slightly subsidise the expensive day out or, if you don’t go in, come along and get yourself a few beer tokens. If you travel to the games by coach, try and sell a few on board or if you come by plane, boat or train I’m sure there must be an outlet somewhere? Skrtel en couverture Dans son édito, Dave Usher, même s’il n’apprécie pas toutes les facettes de sa personnalité, dresse les louanges de Brendan Rodgers, qui a réussi à rétablir une situation compromise en début de saison. Ainsi si ses qualités de recruteur font débat, c’est un génie pour adapter son système tactique aux joueurs à sa disposition. Un autre sujet de préoccupation est le renouvellement des contrats de Sterling ou d’Henderson. Dans le diary, l’humour des tweets de Titi Camara est souligné tandis qu’on apprend que le fils de Salif Diao a rejoint l’academy… Un article expose le chantier principal du mercato d’été avec le recrutement d’un bon buteur : Lacazette, Dybala ou Vietto sont les cibles privilégiées tandis que Ings serait une utile doublure. Des articles qu’on a déjà l’impression d’avoir lu : la nécessité de gagner des trophées plutôt que de finir 4ème, les dérives du foot moderne (prix des places, des maillots, droits TV, émergence des consommateurs plutôt que des supporters…). Un article appelant à créer une chanson pour Raheem Sterling, qui n’en a toujours pas au contraire d’Eeeeegor Biscan… Un article essaie de dresser le parallèle avec le déclin de Liverpool et la situation actuelle de ManU (équipe vieillissante, mauvais choix de recrutement…). Un autre article revient sur le choix du capitaine pour la saison prochaine. Hendo est évidemment en pôle dans l’attente du prolongement de son contrat mais Can, Sakho, Lucas, Skrtel voire Lallana présentent également des profils intéressants. Un article historique sur la fin de la saison 1974 qui voit MU et Everton lutter pour ne pas descendre, ce qui sera pourtant le cas pour les Mancuniens… Le débat porte sur Sterling et de savoir si le club doit lui payer ce qu’il demande, soit plus de 100.000 £ par semaine avec des bonus…Une majorité de contributeurs pense qu’il faut s’aligner sur les demandes du jeune ailier sous peine de le voir partir ailleurs (Luke Shaw émergerait à 200K£ par semaine à MU, Bobby Zamora à 90K£). L’exemple de Pogba parti de MU pour devenir un joueur de classe internationale à la Juve est aussi rappelé.
